“What Is The Planning Concierge?”

The VeloNomad Cycling Trip Planning Concierge Service is the fun and easy way to get a helping hand with planning your dream cycling trip.

It’s a personalised service that leverages my in-depth knowledge of, and huge experience with, planning cycling trips to France, Spain and within Australia.

Tim hard at it

Tim hard at it

I’ve travelled to Europe for a cycling trip numerous times. I’ve hired campervans, hire cars, hotels and apartments. I’ve done Etape du Tour 3 times, watched multiple Tour de France stages and done a hell of a lot of driving.

In short? I know what the hell I am doing.

Using my insights and obsession for logistics and planning, I’ll come up with a bespoke (custom) trip plan for your holiday based on the following information:

  • Who is going on the trip; you and a partner, or you and some mates
  • Your budget
  • What is your desired sightseeing
  • How much riding you want to do, what type (climbs, flat) and where
  • Where you’re flying from
  • How much baggage you have

Who the Trip Concierge is For

The Trip Concierge is perfect if you:

  • Have no idea where to start your planning (Basic Package)
  • Are time poor (Gold, Platinum)
  • Want to leverage my vast cycling travel experience and contacts (all packages)

  • Want to save time and money (All packages)
  • Heading to France or the Spanish Pyrenees from anywhere in the world
  • Coming to Australia (good for the Tour Down Under)

  • Planning on Tackling Etape du Tour

The concierge will give you a big head start on planning your trip in order to save you time, hassle and money.

For most people the general information on this website, in the Cycling Through France Guide and other Guides will be enough to help you plan your trip, albeit with a fair bit of research and planning.

The trip plans come in 3 flavours:

  • Basic
  • Gold
  • Platinum

Each offering caters to different markets and is designed for 3 different types of cycling adventurer.

Why I am Good at This and Why My Knowledge Benefits You (“This really works because…”)

Regular readers of VeloNomad know me as a logistics and planning obsessive and specialist.

When I plan a trip I want the little things taken care of so there are no hidden surprises.

In short? When I plan a cycling trip, things get serious.

Why spend thousands of dollars on a trip only to have it ruined because a small detail was overlooked, or something unplanned popped up and threw a spanner in the works.

Planning

Planning

“Is it right for me?” (Why this is a great investment)

Consider this: I spend on average 30 hours planning each trip (and I am pretty experienced at it). I value my time at $100 an hour, so that works out to around $3000 of my time.

Even if you value your time at $50/hour, you’re looking at $1500 of time. So like I said above, if you want to save a load of time planning your trip then this could be just what you need.

Hey, some people love spending hours planning their trip – it’s part of the fun, right?

Even if that is you, the concierge could still be for you.

Why? Because I can take your itinerary and your trip goals and point out any little tips or tricks, or add my suggestions, all from the point of view of having done all this several times before.

When I was trying to plan my Etape trip last year I begged some guy running cycling tours in Melbourne to dish the dirt on how the logistics of caravaning etc. worked in France and how to plan my trip. In the end it seemed too hard to organise myself so I booked accommodation and organised an Etape package through a UK firm. I know that this meant I paid more than I needed to. I still felt uncomfortable about the logistics.

Then of course there was the choice of airline which ended up costing me tonnes in excess baggage that could have been avoided with the right airline choice and your insights.

Paying for someone to guide the way and explain the ins and outs is valuable to me for sure.

Frequently Asked Questions

“How is this Different from a Personal Tour?”
This is the planning part of a personal tour, without the on-the-ground guiding. Plus it’s a lot more personal, than a “personal” tour.

Guided group tours are a great solution for a reasonably tailored tour. However, they usually cost upwards of a few thousand dollars (not including airfares) and usually include other people (strangers) on your tour. They usually also are pretty inflexible with regard to itinerary, meaning you’re stuck doing exactly what has been laid out. What if you find the most amazing riding spot? Too bad, you have to keep going.

Private tours (you and your friends only) can cost significantly more than guided tours.

The VeloNomad Concierge service will provide you with the planning side of the personal tour and give you enough information to book your trip with a minimum of fuss. You’ll then be responsible for guiding yourself once you hit the ground, which is where the true holiday fun and adventure is anyway.

For those with the budget to accommodate a group tour (let’s say around $7000-$8000 for a few weeks), then that is certainly a viable option.

“How Does it Work and How Long Will it Take?”
After I receive your payment, I’ll contact you to confirm some details and your trip goals and to book your Skype consultation.

From there I will construct a plan in line with the service you have requested. The itinerary is usually ready within a week for the Gold Concierge and 2 weeks for the Platinum Concierge.

“What countries do you plan for?”
I currently only do this for France, the Spanish Pyrenees and Australia but will look to expand in the future into the rest of Spain, Italy and Belgium.
