Cycling Product Reviews
Got a product you’d like reviewed on VeloNomad.com? VeloNomad's Cycling Product Reviews are a great way to leverage your product using VeloNomad's credibility and core market (travel, gran fondos) via the website and mailing list.
VeloNomad reviews drive very sticky responses (long time-on-page numbers) and high conversion.
VeloNomad readers click through affiliate links in reviews 48% of the time (a 48% click to impression rate) and banner ads 36%. From that click, purchase conversion rates vary from a minimum of 5% to as high as 25%.
The typical VeloNomad reader is likely to be male, highly educated with a high annual income, who spends a lot of money online every month (if you'd like more demographic stats, please contact us).
To submit a product review request just drop VeloNomad a line to organise. Remember, we’re in Australia, so if you're outside Oz, keep that in mind.
Editorial Independence and disclosure
VeloNomad is entirely independent in an editorial sense. If the reviewer doesn’t like the product, this will be made clear as well as the reasons for this.
If you don’t like the review because we thought the product had some issues, we won’t change the review.
We also clearly disclose to readers if we bought the product or it was sent free (if that isn’t disclosed it’s due to an honest oversight).
Payment or contra for reviews
We don’t accept payment in return for a review.
In some cases, we’re open to contra swaps for goods for review.
For instance, if you supplied a big ticket item like a bike or bike bag, we’ll swing some advertising your way in return which usually includes banner ads on the site and our emails to the VeloNomad mailing list.
The time frame that this arrangement lasts will be by mutual agreement.
Be aware that any contra deals are disclosed to site visitors in the review.
Payment and shipping for products
VeloNomad does not pay for products. We usually keep small items but obviously will return anything especially bikes.
Return shipping should be organised by the supplier.
What we review
An incomplete list of stuff we love to review is below. Obviously we’re after stuff with a focus on travel, climbing (lightweight stuff especially), Gran Fondos and training (Wheels, bikes, nutrition etc).
- Bikes with a Gran Fondo, travel or training focus. This means bikes aimed at Gran Fondos and long rides, with group at Ultegra/Record/Force and above
- Computers especially GPS and power meters for training
- Cycling and casual shoes and socks
- Bottle cages and bottles
- Luggage, especially bike bags
- Nutrition especially for endurance events and recovery from training
- Tyres, wheels (especially tubeless)
- Accessories like stems, seat posts, seats, skewers, bar tape, cleaning products
- Sunglasses
- Helmets
- Backpacks and travel accessories (helmet pods etc)
- Clothing
- Groupsets, especially stuff suited for climbing
Affiliate Links
Where possible, we will link products subject to the review to Cell Bikes, Wiggle, Chain Reaction Cycles, Evans Cycles, ProBikeKit or any other site, via Affiliate Links.
The only time we will consider only linking to local shops or distributors (and removing affiliate links) is when the distributor/shop provides the product directly, where the product is not a commodity item (i.e. it’s a bike or other big ticket item) and only in the case where the product does not need to be returned.
Site numbers
Contact us for the latest site numbers (uniques per month etc).
For reviews, time on site is, on average, 4 minutes. Longer reviews like the bike bag reviews average 8 minutes.
The reviews usually convert into a sale at a rate between 5-25%.
What You’ll Get
Professional level photographs, a very detailed review (where applicable), honest and objective review with a summary.
We usually go to great lengths to highlight the important characteristics of the item, and any obvious pros and cons.
Review Turn Around
Reviews are usually turned around within 4 weeks, depending on the content calendar and time of year. Reviews can be turned around quicker if needed.
